The Guide, as a whole, represents a starting point for a uniform approach to the collection and forensic analysis of timber for identification purposes. It is hoped that the use of the Guide will lead to more timely, thorough and effective investigations, resulting in an increased number of successful prosecution and a reduction in the illegal timber trade.
