Type of Services: The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board (KZNSB) is mandated by the provincial government of KwaZulu-Natal to protect water users against shark attacks at 37 popular swimming beaches between Richards Bay and Port Edward. The bather protection gear comprises of nets and drumlines. Any animals, which are caught in the gear and die are brought to our headquarters in Umhlanga where a variety of samples are collected and stored, including, but not limited to: skin, muscle tissue, vertebrae, eyes, liver, jaws, and teeth. These samples are used for a variety of both local as well as International collaborative research projects.
