National wildlife trade policy reviews

7 October 2008, Geneva – The Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has launched today a new section on "Wildlife trade policy reviews" to present the results of four pilot reviews conducted by Madagascar, Nicaragua, Uganda and Viet Nam under the CITES policy review project. The policy reviews and background information have just been posted on the CITES website in the original language and English.
Madagascar, Nicaragua, Uganda and Viet Nam were selected to conduct national wildlife trade policy reviews in the context of a joint project developed by the UNEP-UNCTAD Capacity Building Task Force on Trade, Environment and Development, the University of Geneva's Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) and the CITES Secretariat.
Local review teams in the four pilot countries conducted the national reviews with technical assistance provided by national steering committees, and the international project partners mentioned above.
Financial support to the project was provided by the European Union and the Geneva International Academic Network.
