The 169th Party: the Republic of Cape Verde

The Depositary Government of the Convention (the Government of the Swiss Confederation) has informed the Secretariat that the Republic of Cape Verde deposited its instrument of accession to CITES on 10 August 2005. The date of entry into force of the Convention for Cape Verde will be 8 November 2005.

Cape Verde will be the 20th State to become a Party to CITES since the adoption of the Strategic Vision Through 2005 at the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties. Objective 6.1 of the Strategic Vision is "To secure at least 20 more Parties to the Convention by 2005 …" The accession of Cape Verde therefore marks the achievement of this objective.

The accession by Cape Verde included the acceptance of the Gaborone amendment but did not indicate the national authorities.

Cape Verde is an African country consisting of a group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is situated to the west of Senegal. The capital city of Cape Verde is Praia. The official language is Portuguese.
