The Regional Workshop on Electronic CITES Permit Systems, 3 October 2022, is jointly organized by the CITES Secretariat, UNCTAD-ASYCUDA Programme and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).

The objective of the workshop is to discuss current processes of issuing CITES permits, implementation of the eCITES permitting system, including planning, cost-implications, modalities, and most importantly seek feedback from the representatives of the Parties on these matters. 

This event is being organized under a UN-to-UN Agreement between the CITES Secretariat and UNCTAD.

This event is only for invited participants. It is not a public event.

National Stakeholder Consultation on the Implementation of Electronic CITES Permitting System in Vanuatu closed meeting, Port Vila, Vanuatu
29 - 30 September 2022

The National Stakeholder Consultation on the Implementation of Electronic CITES Permitting System in Vanuatu, 29-30 September, is jointly organized by the CITES Secretariat, UNCTAD-ASYCUDA Programme and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).

The objective of the consultation is to present the findings of the feasibility assessment conducted by the UNCTAD-ASYCUDA Programme, to the stakeholders including relevant public sector representatives in Vanuatu. The consultation also aims to discuss the various alternatives of the system, the legal and ICT readiness, financial implications, potential challenges and solutions.

A set of actions for the implementation of the e-permitting system, are also expected to be agreed by all the stakeholders. This event is being organized under a UN to UN Agreement between the CITES Secretariat and UNCTAD. This event is only for invited participants. It is not a public event.

World Wildlife Day 2022 Virtual Global Event

WWD2022_event_pic.jpg The 2022 celebration will be held online, and will seek to bring together representatives of UN member States, UN System organizations and multilateral environmental agreements, civil society, and the private sector for a series of discussions along the theme of "Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration".

CITES Task Force meeting on illegal trade in specimens of listed tree species Online, closed,
01 - 11 February 2022

The CITES Secretariat in collaboration with its partners in the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC), with financial support provided to the ICCWC Strategic Programme by the European Union, France, and Monaco to support the implementation of Decision 18.79, will host an online CITES Task Force meeting on illegal trade in specimens of listed tree species.

Le Secrétariat CITES, en collaboration avec ses partenaires du Consortium international de lutte contre la criminalité liée aux espèces sauvages (ICCWC), avec le soutien financier apporté au Programme stratégique de l'ICCWC par la France, Monaco et l'Union européenne, afin d’appuyer la mise en œuvre de la décision 18.79, accueillera une réunion en ligne de l’Équipe spéciale CITES sur le commerce illégal de spécimens d’espèces d’arbres inscrites aux annexes de la CITES.

La Secretaría CITES, en colaboración con sus asociados del Consorcio Internacional para Combatir los Delitos contra la Vida Silvestre (ICCWC), con el apoyo financiero proporcionado al Programa Estratégico del ICCWC por la Unión Europea, Francia y Mónaco para apoyar la aplicación de la Decisión 18.79, organizará una reunión en línea del Grupo de tareas sobre comercio ilegal de especímenes de especies arbóreas incluidas en los Apéndices de la CITES.

FAO-CITES Virtual Sub-Regional Training Workshop on CITES and Fisheries Online, closed,
15 - 17 November 2021

The objective of the workshop is to strengthen the understanding of the CITES implementation in the fisheries sector through the use of the new FAO-CITES Legal Study and Guide. The aim is to mobilize the fisheries legislation and enforcement to strengthen compliance and enforcement with CITES to better regulate catch and trade in protected species. The Parties invited to the workshop include Fiji, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu as well as Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America. Relevant regional fisheries and environmental organizations and arrangements are expected to take part as well.
