Informal Consultations on the General Assembly draft resolution on Sustainable Fisheries New York, United States of America
07 - 15 November 2015

The United Nations General Assembly annually considers a resolution on Sustainable Fisheries ("Sustainable Fisheries, including through the 1995 Agreement for the Implementation of the Provisions of the United Nations Convention and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks, and related instruments") under the Agenda item "Oceans and Law of the Sea". The resolution represents a comprehensive account of activities relating to Sustainable Fisheries and has been called a benchmark for international organizations in developing their activities in the area of Sustainable Fisheries.

The CITES Secretariat attended the informal consultations as an observer and, upon request, provided information to member states about activities related to the implementation of the COP16 shark listings which entered into force 14 September 2014. Subsequently these activities were recognized in this year's resolution, which was adopted on 8 December.
